Home and Leaving Home: Mary Lucier at TAM opens Nov. 22
Mary Lucier helped to pioneer video art in the 1970s and has continued to innovate in this genre for more than 40 years, achieving acclaim through national and international exhibitions. Lucier’s compelling 5-channel video and audio installation The Plains of Sweet Regret opens at Tacoma Art Museum (TAM) on Saturday, November 22, and will be on view through February 8, 2015. Mary Lucier: The Plains of Sweet Regret is a sweeping, poetic response to the austere landscape, historic boom-and-bust cycles, and the resilience of the inhabitants who live and work in the harsh terrain of the northern Great Plains. Through multiple video channels and the accompanying sound composition, Lucier vividly conveys the realities of economic distress, agricultural production, migration and depopulation.
